20 March is the Vernal (Spring) Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the Autumnal Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere. This happens when the sun crosses the plane of the equator, making day and night equal in length.

Today we experience the yin and yang energy vibration as there is a balance between: day and night, light and darkness, male and female, white and black, etc. 'Equinox' is derived from Latin, meaning 'equal night'. We are also reminded to find balance in our own lives.

The point of the Northward Equinox , currently lies at 6º Pisces (sidereal) and 0º Aries (tropical). It is the point at which the sun's ecliptic intersects the celestial equator.

The Vernal Equinox can be viewed as a turning point. In the Northern Hemisphere this is a turning point from dark to light, and in the Southern Hemisphere from light to dark.  The Southern Hemisphere does not experience the same severe winters as the northern hemisphere and thus we keep our celebrations the same as the northern hemisphere. That is: Easter, Eostara. The main reason the celebrations stay the same, is because it is based on astronomical and astrological occurrences.

On a spiritual level, this equinox symbolizes the triumph of light over dark. It is also viewed as a time of  fertility, conception and rebirth. A time to set new plans and ideas in motion. 'Easter Bunnies' symbolize fertility and 'Easter Eggs' symbolize new life. In Christianity this time celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, from the darkness of death to the light of eternal life. Thus a celebration of Light over Darkness. Knowledge over Ignorance!

Affirmation: The Cosmic Light of Love Shines Upon My Soul and Radiates to All Around Me!

Easter, Eostara (Ostara) and Shivaratri are celebrated with the movement of the moon. Shivaratri is celebrated on the new moon before the Vernal Equinox. Easter, Pascha and Eostara are celebrated near the Full Moon (Holi) in Virgo (Holy Virgin). The colors are white and blue and the number is 3 (holy trinity). During the Equinoxes, fasting should be observed, to ensure future prosperity. It is also a time to bring music, dancing and flowers into your house.

Navratri is observed by Hindus during the two Equinoxes. This entails 9 nights of dancing for the triple goddess (Durga (warrior) / Luxmi (luck) / Sarasvati (knowledge).

March / April : Chitra (Spika) Navratri (31 March to 8 April 2014) - month of full moon in Libra.
Sept / Oct:       Ashwin Navratri (25 Sept to 3 October) - month of full moon in Aries.

The Northward Equinox is at 6º  Pisces which shows that soon we will move into the Age of Aquarius - as the celestial movement is backwards.

Sky picture taken 20 March from Johannesburg, South Africa. This picture shows the Sun is at 6º Pisces. (sidereal - observable and measurable).  Tropical (western) astrology gives this point as 0º Aries and can therefore not be regarded as a science, as it is not observable or quantitatively valid.

The March Equinox is currently at 6º Pisces.
